Today my helper (Anah) and I went grocery shopping. Now, grocery shopping for me is not just an in the store and out deal. Oh no, I plan which stores I'm buying what at, only if it's on sale and only if I have a coupon. I buy very little without a sale and coupon, it has to be a dire need or a weekly necessity.
Today I got over $130 worth of items at Walgreens for $61 and change. I then went to Good Will and got Anah two skirts, a pair of pants, a pair of sweat Capri's, two shirts for me and three Coke glasses for Bob, all for $21. More than I would have like to spend, but Anah is growing right out of her clothes (Praise God) and Momma always seems to have stains on her shirts..hmmm.... Then we went to Wegmans, where I got most of the meat for the month, as well as a large grocery cart full of food, the total was $159, but I got it for $116. Not terrific, but most of it was meat and I didn't have any coupons for that, but I did get the meat on sale.
So for $177 I got most of our groceries, paper products and various other supplies for the month for a family of 5. I still need a few other things from Save A Lot, which I'll get after co-op tomorrow, but that shouldn't be more than $20. We still need to get fresh fruit, milk, bread every week or every other week, and a few odds and ends, but over all, my spending 1/2 a day a week on coupons and looking for bargains and another 1/2 day shopping is very beneficial to our family. I'm blessed that I can be home to do it and that I have such an awesome little helper. Anah keeps up with me very well, she does start to drag by the end, but then again, so do I. She chats in her gibberish to me and I get to tell her what things are, what colors things are and anything else that she points to or pops into my head. She sure is a sweet heart.
